Did you know that cross country moving is one of the hardest things that you’ll do in your life? We’re not sure if you know this or not but anyway we’re here to help. That’s why we at New Leaf Moving Group Florida are here to provide you with cross country moving timeline. It’s quite common that more and more people are moving cross country. That’s especially true that more people are moving from California to Florida for example. The weather is quite similar but the cost of living is almost double in California. So let’s dive in and explore the timeline together!

Cross country moving timeline starts about 60 days before your move

The first thing we do as cross country movers Florida is to tell our customers to pack the documents. Packing documents is really important so prepare your passports, IDs, birth certificates, insurance cars, and medical records. If you have kids don’t forget to talk with the principal so you can transfer them in advance and also don’t forget to find good schools in your new city. Now when it comes to pets make an appointment at the vet’s office. So you can talk about your relocation and if a pet needs any vaccines or how will it adapt (especially if it’s a different climate). Don’t forget that pets and children are similar, so you want to keep everything organized.  After that, you should start decluttering (the sooner the better). So you should decide your things into three categories:

  • Throw away items
  • Keep or move items
  • Sell items
  • Donate items
  • Store items
  • Recycle items
  • Fix items
A list with Today written on it and numbering 1,2,3,4;
Making a list is essential.

You can add or remove any of these categories which is great. There is also a 20/20 rule; if something is worth less than $20 throw it away. Last but not least is the 1-year rule, if you haven’t used an item for over a year throw it away. Now make a list of all the things that you’ll have to fix before you move out. This is true for those who rent and those who are owners (especially if you want a better price). After that start making appointments with carpenters, painters, plumbers, etc. The sooner you contact them the better ones you’ll find plus they’ll lower the price. That’s also true with making appointments with long distance movers Boynton Beach.

30 days before your move

By this time you’ll probably finished all the decluttering and you’ll slowly start to pack some things. If you see that you’ll need any help moving services Boynton Beach got your back, so don’t worry. Because packing, wrapping, disassembling, reassembling, loading, unloading, etc. can be quite stressful things.  After that take care of the utilities so turn them off and transfer them to your new location. Don’t forget to turn off the heating, water, electricity, and cable, transfer your postal address, etc. Then you can also ask these companies to start your package at your new location. This is the time when you should start thinking about storage so if you need any at all; what size small, medium, or large; if you need climate controlled or not.

15 days before you start moving cross country

Go to the dentist and do the medical checkup for the last time; you should do this as a family if possible. We hope that you moved your medical documentation at least a month before your move because it takes about 30 days to move all the documents. If you have a car take it to the mechanic to check if it’ll pass all the tests. At the same time check to see if it needs any repairs done. This is also a great time to check if you need to change the license places right away or once you’re at your destination. Once again the best moving companies from Florida to New Jersey will offer you any assistance if you need it and don’t forget to call on them sooner if you want a better price.

7 days before you move

This is the week when you’ll start packing some of the more essential things. Don’t forget to check if you or your family needs any extra medications or food supplies. Wash all of your things and dry them before you hit the road. Check if you need to give back something to your friends (lawnmower) or if they need to get you back something. 3 days before you move pack everything up and leave just things that you’ll need for your moving day. Also pack a traveling bag with your clothes, toothbrushes, meds, diapers, charges, etc. everything that you’ll need. Once again check the car (oil, tires, antifreeze, etc.) if you are going on a road trip. If you’re shipping your car talk with the company to arrange the pickup or drive to where it’s needed.

The night before the move and the moving day

This is the time when you’ll discontent the TV, and kitchen appliances, disassemble the kitchen and start packing the last things that you won’t need. After if you have any leftover food throw it away so you won’t get food poisoning and movers don’t move the food. The best thing that you can do is donate it to a church or food bank. Call the landlord, and real estate agents, or if you didn’t find any try realtor to find real estate agents and brokers in your area. Say goodbye to your friends and it’s moving time! Now just brush your teeth grab a bite and hit the road jack.

As you can see the cross country moving timeline isn’t that big of a deal, you’ve just got to organize well. We hope that you liked it and that it gave you inspiration for the move. So start with decluttering, followed by contacting movers, after that talk with doctors, arrange papers afterward, and check your car and your pets. Don’t forget about the kids and the school too, we hope that you’ll have a stress-free move and have a good day!
